Never Erase A Blog for artwork that is made in sketchbooks, on canvas, under camera or on your hard drive. Saw him on BET with Chuck D. He has a lot of heart and it was nice to watch the interview and do a drawing. I actually found this in a sketchbook that I had totally forgotten about. Looked through it and found a bunch of stuff I has also forgotten. Will post some more sometime soon.

Later in the evening I drew the second one from the first one but going about it in a totally different way. I didn’t  sketch at all I just went right for the value and forced myself to go fast. It was done in half the time. The second is not necessarily supposed to look just like the first. I was hoping that I would get something interesting out of it… not sure I did.  It’s not nearly as precise but I had fun doing it and when I experiment more I’ll post the results.

He specifically said that I should ditch the hand from a very early post on this blog.  So I went back and looked at it and when you’re right…. you’re right! That was one of my earliest sculpts and looking at it today it shows.

So I did a new one!     …and posed it this time!

Woke up three hours later.  Decided sleep was lame,  and drew Cornell West.

Yeah doesn’t make a lot of sense to me either but it was a nice ending to a week that kind of sucked. Excited about tomorrow.

This is just quick sketch done very quickly. I really like Cornell. He makes me want to do more with myself. Click on it.

She was  an early silent movie star, who later moved into sound. She was known for over the top costumes and in her day was quite famous. When I searched for Movie Star she came up. Painted mainly as an exercise I left it loose. You can read more about her here…  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mae_Murray

Most of these were done in bars, resteraunts , etc. They are very quick and unrefined but I kind of like them. These are my favorites from that particular book. I have a whole bunch of others though and I’ll post some more drawings as I scan them in.

I started it as an exercise one night. Finished up this afternoon. Working on a few different things in tandem lately which is kind of different for me. It seems to go in waves. Lots of drawings and paintings… or … lots of 3D stuff. This was inspired by a film callled A Very Long Engagement. It’s one of the characters from the film.

I referenced part of it and then just painted away once I got the basic sketch in. Done entirely in Photoshop I tried to keep her really loose and just kind of infer shapes in her hair and legs. This kind of stuff is like therapy for me, and very different from what I’m asked to create at work. Comments and critique of any kind, are welcome as always.
